Sidmouth Watering Can

Only Mark.......

Whilst camping at Sidmouth in 2014 a group of us went down the cliff  to walk along the shoreline into the town. It was closed due to a landslip but Mark decided to give it a go. We watched in horror as he disappeared then resurfaced in the sea, up to his neck, yellow cap showing and holding an object in the air. (The latter turned out to be a broken watering can which had fallen from a garden above into which Mark had placed his clothes to keep them dry). Alarmed, we headed to the town as quickly as we could, where an air-sea rescue, instigated by a horde of concerned spectators, was just standing down. Mark was jubilant and couldn't understand all the fuss. We took a different view! By the evening he made amends with some heartfelt apologies for the stress and a round of drinks.

The story was carried in the local rag a few days later, and the owner of the watering can reportedly wanted it back. But it was too good a trophy and a great talking point for Hilary's garden!
